An early pioneer’s journey starts with the research and development of the first fiber optic and preform technologies
1978
Start of the first fiber optics project
As a worldwide pioneer the Jena Glass Works starts a fiber optics project.
The company’s expertise goes back to the tradition of Carl Zeiss, Schott and Ernst Abbe that made Jena a worldwide leading center of excellence for glass making crafts, leading-edge optics, and precision manufacturing.
1979
Development of preforms and fibers to final process technologies
The company begins its research on first preform designs followed by a continuous development of optical preforms and fibers as well as the necessary fiber processing technologies.
1993
Integration of Facilities
The integration of the complete fiber production at the Jena location materializes in highly efficient production.
1994, Juli – 2003
A former glass maker’s offspring becomes the worldwide fastest growing fiber company with a substantial share in the global LAN and special fiber businesses.
1994, Juli:
FiberCore Jena is the new global player
FiberCore Jena GmbH is founded as the world's only independent supplier of optical fibers and preforms, offering the cable companies a complete solution from ultra-pure glass to high-performance optical fibers – processed on FiberCore’s special fiber making machinery based on an optimized MCVD process.
The global market share and customer base is growing. FiberCore constantly expands its fiber making capacity. The next generation of preform technology’s is being developed. The constantly enlarged perform design lead to a jump in fiber yields.
