backj-fiber introduces its new j-Ultrasol solarization resistant optical fiber
86% long term high transmission stability under UV exposure for <400nm wavelengths for 1500h applications in spectroscopy and medical or industrial components
Jena, June 15, 2009 – Highest transmission stability, long fiber life time: Ultraviolet radiation exposure impacts the transmission performance and life time of silica fibers. With j-Ultrasol j-fiber has developed a solarization resistant fiber for long life, high transmission stability under UV exposure, specifically in the critical sub 230 nm range. j-Ultrasol fiber thereby shows excellent short, mid and long-term stability results under UV exposure (215 nm deuterium lamp with an optical output of 8 µ W): 93% transmission short-term stability over the first 2 h; for up to 240 h of UV exposure the fiber shows only a moderate stability decline from 93% to 86%, a transmission stability level that j-Ultrasol reliably maintains during the tested 1500 hours under UV exposure.

Optimized for <400 nm wavelength applications: The 200 µm silica core, 220 µm fluorine-doped silica clad Step Index Multimode fiber has been designed for spectroscopy and medical or industry applications in the < 400 nm wavelength operation range. Other core/clad diameters are available upon request.
